Optimal mental function
Ortho-Mind 1.0 contains ingredients that enhance cognitive function. These nutrients protect the brain and nervous system, support the structure of the brain, and help with mental functions including focus, vigilance and memory. They also help deliver oxygen and glucose to the brain to maintain energy, and support optimal levels of neurotransmitters.
Brain boosters
R+ Lipoic acid is an antioxidant which protects and improves the function of the mitochondria, which is the location of cellular energy production. Vinpocetine and Ginkgo biloba enhance the flow of nutrients and oxygen in the brain. Huperzine-A prevents the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is central to memory. Citicoline increases levels of phospholipids and neurotransmitters. Bacopa moniera enhances cognitive performance. R+ lipoic acid, Ginkgo biloba and Huperzine-A have all been shown to have potential benefits in Alzheimer's disease.
Don't lose your mind
Ortho-Mind 1.0 is an advanced cognitive support formula that contains a mix of beneficial nutrients in dosages that have been found to be effective in clinical trials. These nutrients enhance brain function, both in people with disorders of cognitive function and in individuals with healthy minds who want to achieve optimal mental performance.

R(+)-Lipoic Acid is needed by the mitrochondria, cellular "power plants" which drive nerve cell metabolism. R(+)-Lipoic Acid improves the efficiency of mitochondrial function, while preventing the age-related increase in free radical production. R(+)-Lipoic Acid has also been shown to reverse the buildup with age of iron in the brain, which is associated with human neurological disorders. One study supports the use of lipoic acid in Alzheimer's disease.
Vinpocetine and Ginkgo biloba both enhance cerebral microcirculation in the brain, keeping needed energy and oxygen flowing to the brain. Vinpocetine is especially remarkable in this regard, as it does this without reducing blood flow elsewhere in the body.
Vinpocetine also supports the availability of oxygen and fuel by mechanisms not shared by Ginkgo. First, Vinpocetine enhances the ability of red blood cells to "flex" their shape so as to more easily deliver oxygen across the blood-brain barrier. Additionally, Vinpocetine allows blood sugar to cross the blood-brain barrier more efficiently, and makes it easier for brain cells to take up and release glucose. These properties provide protection against the brain damage that follows the cutting off of circulation during a stroke.
Many controlled trials have demonstrated the ability of both Ginkgo and Vinpocetine to support cognitive function. Ginkgo has also been shown to delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
Huperzine-A is a unique, natural, nontoxic, and highly selective inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE). AChE breaks down the brain messenger-molecule acetylcholine. The only drugs specifically approved to treat Alzheimer's dementia are all AChE inhibitors, but cause side effects due to their interactions with other enzymes. Huperzine-A has shown itself to be extremely selective for brain AChE.
Studies with Alzheimer's disease patients show that Huperzine-A provides clear improvements in memory, cognitive, and behavioral parameters. Similar results have been reported involving persons with dementias caused by stroke or written off to the aging process. Huperzine-A has also been reported to improve memory and performance in young students.
L-Pyroglutamic Acid is the natural molecule behind nootropic drugs such as piracetam, oxiracetam, and pramiracetam. The nootropics' ability to improve learning, memory consolidation, and retrieval in normal, healthy people has been well-established in clinical trials. These effects are also seen with L-Pyroglutamic Acid.
Citicoline is not just a source of choline, the main building block of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, but is also a brain phospholipid booster. Phospholipids are essential components of neural membranes, and their presence is needed for the normal responsiveness of the brain to neurotransmitter signals. Citicoline enhances the brain's ability to synthesize its own phospholipids. As a result, Citicoline increases levels of all phospholipids in neural membranes without altering the normal, youthful proportions of the various phospholipids. Citicoline also increases the manufacture or release of key neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin.
Citicoline provides effective nutritional support in a wide range of cognitive disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, stroke, dementia associated with Parkinson's disease, and head trauma. Citicoline can also significantly improve memory function in persons with "normal" age-related cognitive decline.
Bacopa monniera, an herb long revered in Ayurvedic tradition, has been studied for its effects on cognitive¬enhancement in children. Studies have also shown it to be helpful in relieving anxiety. One trial found that men and women supplementing with Bacopa showed significant improvements in cognitive function, with improvements in processing visual information, a greater rate of learning and a lower rate of forgetting verbal information, and a greater ability to consolidate new information.
