Although Easter is on the way, eggs can be used for more than just decorating. They are an excellent food choice for many reasons, three of which are listed below:
1. They may help you lose weight. A study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition tested this theory on twenty eight people who were randomly assigned a breakfast based on bagels, or eggs. Those that ate the egg breakfast at about 163 calories less just at lunch time than the bagel eaters did. Furthermore, the egg eaters seemed to keep their calories more in check throughout the day-they ate an average of 418 calories less over a twenty four hour period than their counterparts.
2. They contain high quality protein. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, and the standards for protein that should be consumed by human beings for optimal health is actually set out by the protein found in eggs. Protein builds body tissue, promotes fat burning, and increases lean muscle mass-not to mention keeps you feeling full for longer.
3. Eggs may prevent breast cancer. For all the women out there, eating an egg a day may be an easy step in the prevention of breast cancer. Researchers at Harvard Medical School found evidence that women who eat eggs regularly in their teen years are much less likely to develop breast cancer later on in life.
Although there has been controversy over whether or not eggs can increase bad cholesterol levels in the body, this is unfounded. Eating eggs daily does not impact cholesterol particles in the blood, and will not cause heart disease. The particles that did increase were not those that are associated with cardiovascular diseases-good news egg lovers-eat up!
