3 Mood and Brain Foods

If you are feeling a little slow and sluggish, try focusing on your diet to get you out of a funk. Certain foods are considered “brain foods” because they boost your mood, leave you with more energy, and actually help clear your mind. Here are three brain foods:

1.Fish. DHA is a type of omega-3 fatty acid which is found in fish and also makes up a large portion of the gray matter of the brain. The fat in your brain forms cell membranes and plays a vital role in how our cells function.  Foods which contain high amounts of omega 3 fatty acids such as fish promote emotional stability and improve your mood greatly. Fish such as salmon and cod should be eaten at least a few times a week.

2.Eggs. It has been shown that egg yolks contain choline. Choline is a component of two fat-like molecules in the brain that are responsible for brain function and promote a healthy brain. A choline deficiency may contribute to age-related mental decline and even Alzeimers disease. Try eating eggs for breakfast a three or or so times a week to get the maximum benefits.

3.Spinach.  All fruits and vegetables are good for you but spinach does a little more. It helps protect the brain from oxidative stress and may reduce the risk of age related brain function delince. Studies were done on rats who were fed spinach and they found that the ones  who were fed spinach had a greater learning capacity and improved motor skills.

Along with eating right, exercising daily can actually improve your mood and promotes brain health. Cardiovascular excercise such as runninng or swimming should be done for at least half an hour most days of the week.
