4 Healing Essential Oils

Scent is the most enduring of our five senses. It has the power to affect our emotions as well as heal our bodies. The olfactory nerves, found in our noses, are connected to the brain, and by stimulating these nerves we can begin to cause a reaction in our bodies. Essential oils have been used to naturally treat respiratory problems, memory loss, depression, sexual dysfunctions, and numerous other ailments.

Here is a description of a select few essential oils and what they are commonly used for.

Lemon Essential Oils: Lemon is commonly used to treat headaches, migraines, sore throats, cellulite, and sinus problems. Lemon is a natural antiseptic and also is considered to be antiviral.

Lavender Essential Oils: Lavender is known for its relaxation properties. It is great to put in a bath before bed if you have a hard time sleeping. It can also be used for colds, acne, burns, sunburn, and other skin problems.

Orange Essential Oils: The scent of orange is extremely refreshing and relaxing. This oil is said to treat ailments like anxiety, depression, nervous tension, and respiratory conditions. It is also great for increasing blood flow and muscle cramping.

Eucalyptus Oils: Eucalyptus is an extremely woody scent that is thought to be both balancing and stimulating. It can be used as a disinfectant, decongestant, and even for breathing problems like asthma and bronchitis. Eucalyptus is great in the bath when you have cold as it decongests and lets you breathe better.

Essential oils can be used by adding drops of oil into the bath, or by being put in an aromatherapy candle or humidifier in your home. They can also be applied to face masks, body creams, and even water before steaming your face. Always remember to never apply essential oils directly to the skin without first diluting them.
