Asthma: a mystery of cause with many triggers.
No one really knows the exact cause for Asthma, whether it is hereditary or comes from exposure to triggers – different allergens – but what all asthma sufferers have in common is that the symptoms are debilitating, and can affect the way they live.
Asthma attacks are characterized by a chronic inflammation in the air passage to the lungs, which makes it difficult to take in oxygen. Low levels of oxygen can slow you physically and cause harm to your brain.
The reasons for flare-up vary from over exertion to pollen in the air, and some people seem to be born with it, while others develop it as they age. It’s a mystery that has been keeping scientists busy for some time. What has been discovered is that your environment and the way you lead you life are at least part cause and can affect the level you suffer.
Knowing your own body, and what triggers are prone to set a reaction off in your air passage is key to stopping attacks.
This is a list of some of the more common causes for attack:
1. Air pollution. Air that is hard to breath from the start may aggravate you and set off an attack.
2. Dust mites. Keeping your living space well dusted and vacuuming often may help reduce the chance of flare-up.
3. Mold. Like air pollution mold causes the environment you are in to become dangerous.
4. Pets. Several pets have hair that expels large amounts of allergens into the air and onto clothes. Allergic reaction to these allergens might be the cause for chronic symptoms.
5. Too much exercise. Over exertion can tax your lungs and irritate the air passage, which will leave you breathless regardless of whether you are asthmatic or not. Knowing how to pace yourself and keeping an inhaler around are key.
