There aren’t too many sure things in life, However, death unfortunately is one of those sure things. Although there is no way to cheat death, there are definitely things you can do to extend your years. Obviously, leading a healthy lifestyle and exercising regularly are key components to longevity-here are three additional things to try which may give you a few more years.
1. Drink plenty of water. We’ve all heard this time and time again-but water is one of the most important things we can nourish our body with in order to stay young and healthy. Studies have found that men who drank at least five 8 oz glasses of water a day were 54% less likely to suffer a heart attack than those who drank substantially less than the recommended daily amount.
2. Laugh. Laughing can both decrease stress levels and improve blood flow to the heart by a shocking 50%! A good dose of daily humor may decrease your risk for heart attack, blood clot formation, and reduce cholesterol deposits.
3. Take a Magnesium supplement. Researchers have reported that over an eighteen year period, men who had the highest levels of magnesium in their body were 40% less likely to die of any kind of cause. If you are not getting enough magnesium in your diet, try taking a multivitamin or specific supplement.
Research has proven that in order to add years onto your life, small changes in habits and lifestyle have a significant impact on the number of years that people live. As professor Kay-Tee Khaw says, “Many of us find it difficult to change our lifestyle. However, there is increasing evidence that even relatively small changes can make a big difference to our health and well being." Of the most significant changes you can make, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption are found to be two of the most worthwhile changes in terms of leading a longer, healthier life.
