Be Creative, Be Happy

Although there is so much information on self help, depression seems to be on the rise. Many would argue that this is due to the overwhelming distractions we now have in our world. With the advent of the Internet and now hundreds of TV channels to choose from, this may be true. We live very busy lives and are continually bombarded with information and noise. It’s like our souls are in constant defense against the world around us. The business and clutter all seems a little soulless. A good way to judge this, is to ask yourself if what you are doing is important or meaningful in your life. For many, the answer to this questions will be no…most of the time. We spend countless hours watching TV shows just to fill the time. We also spend many hours in habit mode, just getting through the day. If you feel a little depressed due to what you feel is a boring lifestyle, here are some ideas to break away from mundane activity and to lift your mood.

Try to do something creative. Buy a canvas or pad of paper, and try to paint a picture or write a poem or story. The finished product, although rewarding to some degree, is not really that important. The important part is the process. You will find that you are creative. You will find that you have talents that you never knew you had. You don’t have to show anyone, but just you knowing will be good enough. At the very least it will be funny process and very important learning process. You never know what will come out and maybe it will be the start of a new creative journey.

Be lazy. Well not lazy to the point of sleeping all the time, but take a major time-out. Go for a long walk or just sit somewhere quiet. Try listening to nothing at all. Try listening to the silence or space between noise. This will give you a much needed break from all the noise and business of life. The more you can take time-outs, the happier you will be. These moments will rejuvenate your entire body, and decrease your stress and depression levels exponentially.

Exercise and healthy eating is also very important. Depending on your level of stress and depression, you may try natural mood enhancers that can also assist you in your journey to a happier life.
