Blogging Your Way To A Better Body

Who would have thought that by doing what we do every day on this site, blogging, could help you lose weight? How you ask? By sharing your stories, writing comments, reading about others, and connecting with bloggers via the World Wide Web to discuss weight loss and diet.

According to Suz Redfearn of Health magazine, writing, or just reading, an online dieting diary can help you lose weight and organize your own support system. The world of diet bloggers, where the daily triumphs and downfalls of dieting are shared via Internet journals (some get thousands of visitors a month), is made up of readers who post comments and essentially create a weight loss support group online.

Julie Ridl, a 45-year-old design consultant in Michigan, lost 100 pounds in 2001, and says writing about her daily struggle to maintain the weight loss on her own site has kept her sharply focused, while at the same time inspiring regular readers. She gets about 40,000 hits per month to her site, Skinnydailypost.com, which discusses healthy food ideas, and analyses recipes and nutritional guidelines. Readers who respond to Ridl’s blog say they’re motivated by her online sharing to meet their own weight-loss goals.

Does this sound like a good way for you to meet your diet goals? Actively writing about your experiences may help you to commit and stay on track too. Start your own blog by going to Blogger.com, which hosts blogs for free. To find and browse existing diet blogs, log on to Technorati.com and search for ‘weight loss.’
