MMA training is a different way to lose weight and get in shape. People gain weight and get out of shape probably due to the fact that most exercise can be boring. But MMA encompasses martial arts for a variety of disciplines such as Muay Thai, Karate, and Tae Kwando. Because of this mixture, there is a greater likelihood of inspiring more interest. MMA training not only has techniques to build cardio endurance but to also build muscle mass and strength. Increasing the heart rate through cardio drills helps to burn calories which is essential to losing weight. Building muscle tissue also burns calories.

Anyone can learn some basic self-defense techniques. Women and children can especially benefit from learning many of these techniques to defend themselves from attackers and all without the use of firearms that could put them in danger if used improperly.

It can be a way to battle addictions. Experts know that in order to cure any addiction, it must be replaced by something else. A good example of a person who took on MMA training in order to battle a serious drug addiction was UFC fighter Matt Brown. His nickname was "The Immortal" and he was given this because of being pronounced dead from a heroin overdose and then brought back to life. After this incident, he sought a better way to occupy his time instead of drugs and took an interest in MMA videos. To be proficient with MMA, one must be highly disciplined and stick to a rigorous training schedule. There is no time for drugs or alcohol not to mention how the body benefits by replacing substance abuse with workouts.
