Change your Breakfast Change your Life

According to health and wellness experts, eating refined carbs and excess sugar in the morning can make you crave junk food for the rest of the day.  What this means is that by starting the day out with sugary cereals, white bagels and the like can you can be doing yourself a huge disservice.  Eating these foods for breakfast leads to weight gain in the long run.

Because these type of foods lead towards bad choices throughout the day, you’ll eventually see the number on the scale rise, even if it happens rather slowly.  On the other hand though simply by changing how you begin the day you’ll give yourself a fighting chance to reach your weight loss and fitness goals.

If you’re used to eating sugary cereals for breakfast you can swap this out for a hearty bowl of oatmeal.  Oatmeal if full of great vitamins and minerals and as the old saying goes it will really stick to your ribs.  Oatmeal is low in fat and keeps you full for a good long while so it really is a great choice for breakfast cereal eaters.

If you like to have toast or a bagel for breakfast, try to pair this with some protein and choose whole grain products.  The less refined the better.  A piece of whole grain bread with a hard boiled egg will at least give you the protein you need to stay full longer and not go through a sugar spike and crash.

If you like to have a cup of coffee and nothing else for breakfast this is also a big no-no.  Skipping breakfast is almost as bad as eating the wrong things when it comes to trying to lose weight.  Skipping this important meal will certainly lead to binging on a less than healthy lunch or mid-morning snack.

Instead of loading up on a sugary, high calorie mocha or frappachino therefore try a smoothie instead.  If you are the type that can’t stomach much in the way of solid food first thing in the morning, you can still opt for a liquid breakfast in the form of a nutrient dense smoothie.  Add hemp hearts, protein powder, fruits, yogurt and ice for a terrific morning treat.

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day because it can determine how the rest of your day goes.  Eating well first thing will ensure you have both the stamina and the motivation to follow through on your diet and exercise plans.
