Choosing Healthier Treats
When making changes to your diet it can be difficult to think about all the things you’ll have to give up in order to improve your health. A better way to go about it therefore is to think about adding in some more healthy options. If you strive to give your body the vitamins, minerals and nutrients it needs, rather than trying to avoid a long list of less healthy treats, than you’ll naturally steer towards a healthier diet.
When it comes to dieting, most people feel that they have to deprive themselves of their favourite foods. But rather than forgoing that heavenly piece of rich chocolate cake, try instead to make healthy choices more often and see where that leads. Add in some or all of the choices listed below and see how you naturally begin to gravitate towards a healthier lifestyle.
Almond Mix: Almonds are a tasty and nutrient dense treat that can fill you up. Although almonds are high in fat, they are at least a good fat and are therefore much better for you than a bag of chips. Pair almonds with some raisins, dried cranberries and even a few chocolate chips if necessary. Munching on this tasty mix instead of your usual less healthy salty snack will help improve your health.
Yogurt and Fruit. When you’re having a craving post super for a tasty desert, opt for some low fat yogurt and blueberries or another berry or fruit of your choice. A good, low fat plain yogurt goes wonderfully with berries or bananas and is almost the same as Ben and Jerry’s. Add a few spoonfuls of some hemp seed hearts and you’ve got yourself one of the healthiest and nutrient rich deserts imaginable.
Hot Chocolate or Hot Tea: Ok so if you’re having a chocolate craving that simply cannot be ignored opt for one of the packets of light hot chocolate available on the market. These are often only about 60 calories a piece and with a little rice milk or skim milk you’ll have yourself a tasty treat. Alternatively, there are also new teas available like mint julep or chocolate mint which might just curb that desert craving.
