Creating Fantastic Salads
The experts advise that a healthy adult should eat up about nine servings of vegetable and fruits in a day. To some this number may sound impossible when in fact its not that hard. One of the easiest ways to make sure you eat enough fruits and veggies is to eat a large salad for at least one meal a day. Sound boring? It doesnt have to be. Here are three ways to spruce up your salad so that its delicious and never boring:
1.Add fruit and nuts. The key to a great salad is to add lots of ingredients. Unexpected fruits and a handful of crunch nuts will keep your taste buds guessing and keep your salad from being dull. Fruits such as strawberries, chopped kiwis, mango slices, blueberries and raspberries all go amazingly well with most salads. Walnuts, slivered almonds and pecans are also a great pair.
2.Mix up the greens. Stay away from the iceberg lettuce and play with something a little more tasteful and nutritious. Spinach salad is a great option as it has lots of taste and tons of nutritional value. It contains iron, calcium and is very high in antioxidants which fight aging. You can also try adding arugula to add a somewhat spicy flavor to the salad.
3.Make your own dressing. The key ingredient to a fantastic salad is a tasteful dressing that is home made. You can make any kind you want but try to keep it healthy. Heavy cream dressings can be fattening and aren&undefined;t that good for you. Instead stick with a simple vinagrette. Add some chopped fresh garlic, extra virgin olive oil, balsalmic vinegar and other spices to mix up a tasty dressing you will never get sick of.
If you are not a big fan of salad and are worried of getting your suggested serving of fruits and vegetables you just need to be creative in other ways. Sneak extra veggies into sandwiches, soups, omlettes or pasta dishes to get your daily nutrition.
