Curing Bad Breath

It goes without saying that bad breath is a serious turn off, and doesn’t make for good first impressions. It’s all the more problematic because it is difficult to tell when you have it, so it is something you should be aware of, and something that you should take steps to avoid or remedy. This article will explore some of the many remedies available to treat this embarrassing yet very common condition.

The surefire way to get bad breath has to do with what you choose to eat. Onions and garlic are obvious culprits, so you really need to brush your teeth after consuming these things, but it’s probably wise to just try to avoid them altogether, especially if you’re going to be out of the house or socializing afterwards.

However its more than just food that will cause bad breath, smoking and drinking also are virtual guarantors of bad breath. So keep this in mind if you’re in a situation in which you need to impress, it may be best to let those cigarettes wait until after you’ve made your first impressions.

Now I’ll consider some of the more systemic ways of developing bad breath, and some things you can do to treat the bad breath you already have. For starters it is important to brush your teeth often, especially after meals. This is one of the most important steps to take, and failing to brush one’s teeth is probably the most certain way of developing consistently bad breath. Failure to brush regularly also causes problems in the long run, by contributing to overall tooth decay, which in turn causes bad breath.

Another easy preventive measure is to keep drinking plenty of water. Bad breath is often caused by bacteria in your mouth, and since this bacterium loves a dry environment, drinking water is one of the easiest things you can do to reduce the chances of developing bad breath.

Now there are also some more immediate and obvious cures for bad breath, such as gum. However for the purposes of curing bad breath you should stick to sugar free gum, for sugar contributes to the bacteria content in your mouth and therefore contributes to bad breath. Another immediate cure is mouthwash, which effectively kills the bacteria living on your tongue and in your mouth that cause bad breath.

In general, it is always a good idea to consult your dentist for specific instructions and for recommendations if you are suffering from chronic bad breath.  There may be a medical problem that needs addressing.
