Eat Cherries for Health

If you're a cherry lover than here's some great news for you.  According to recent reports, cherries are one of the best fruits for your health.  These delicious summer treats are chalked full of antioxidants and other important nutrients, so go ahead and indulge to your heart's content.

As of late, cherries are the newest addition to the list of superfoods.  When compared to other fruits, cherries have some of the highest levels of antioxidants and disease fighting capabilities around.  They contain beta-carotene (apparently as much as nine times more than blueberries or strawberries) and are full of vitamin C as well.  Cherries are also high in potassium, magnesium, iron, folate and fiber.

These qualities and many others make cherries a very good healthy choice for a tasty snack or sumptuous dessert.  They have been associated with helping ease symptoms of gout and arthritis.  Moreover, they are also responsible for helping to reduce the risks of developing certain types of cancers, heart disease and Diabetes.

Another important finding is that for those with sleep disorders, cherries may be very beneficial.  Cherries actually contain melatonin, and this has been shown to help with sleep disorders, most especially regulating the sleep cycle.  For people suffering from insomnia or temporary sleep disturbances such as jet lag, cherries can help.

Cherries are also good for the brain.  Some studies have shown that cherries can aid with memory loss and slow down the aging process when it comes to cognitive functioning.

Finally, the most recent evidence has also shown that cherries can help reduce belly fat.  Eating cherries in some studies has been shown to reduce the weight of participants.  As well as this, a cherry rich diet can aid in combating inflammation and cholesterol levels--both of which are risks for heart disease.

With all of these important health and weight loss benefits there is simply no reason not to eat cherries.  Try them on their own, make a cherry juice or indulge in a home-made cherry pie.  As always, buy organic and local when possible to ensure quality and freshness.
