Ephedrine / Ephedra Pills for Fat-Burning
Ephedrine / ephedra is a popular fat burner ingredient that is also very controversial. Ephedrine is the main ingredient in the illegal drug methamphetamine (crank). Thus ephedrine is often outlawed to keep it from being used to make illegal drugs and not due to it being dangerous for dieters to use.
More recently the safety of ephedrine has come into question. The use has caused some deaths in the US. It certainly can be dangerous for some people and at the wrong dosage. However, the health risks are sometimes exaggerated by the media.
The media has put more attention on the people that have had severe reactions to ephedrine than most other medications get. There are many of people that have life threatening reactions to FDA regulated prescriptions as well as over-the-counter medications. Additionally, obesity itself causes complications that result in death. Thus the deaths related to ephedrine use are not that much different than the risk of taking most medications.
The dieting industry has also played a role in ephedrine getting a bad reputation. This is partially due to it being sold as a natural health supplement and not regulated. Additionally, it can be standardized from various herbs and it was not always made clear that a natural product includes ephedrine. Thus people do not always know they are taking ephedrine. Another problem is that the products are rarely sold with a warning about the possible risks of ephedrine use.
Thus the big problems with ephedrine are that people are not educated and it is not regulated. If controlled and regulated by the FDA, it would not end up in the wrong hands as much. Those that are healthy and use it properly usually do not have problems.
Ephedrine is a clinically proven fat burner when used as directed, especially when used with caffeine and aspirin. Whether you should use ephedrine/ephedra is partially based on if you have certain health problems that make you more at risk of serious side effects.
If your doctor says it is okay for you to use ephedra-based products, it is important to start with small doses to test your tolerance. It is also important to never take more than the recommended dose and read the product’s label carefully. You should also cycle the use of ephedra to avoid overloading your adrenal glands. When used properly by healthy people, it can prove a useful fat burner.
