Foods That May Prevent Cancer

Unfortunately western society’s doctors do not put enough emphasis on your diet as a means of preventing and treating cancer.  Cancer rates are rising around the world, and the foods that prevent cancer are basically the opposite of the typical American or Westernized diet.  The perfect anticancer diet is comprised of mainly colorful fruits, vegetables and legumes and unsaturated fats, garlic, herbs and spices.  Here are a few foods that you should eat daily and a short explanation on how they prevent or treat cancer:

1. Pomegranate Juice. This delicious juice tastes a little tart but does wonders when it comes to cancer prevention and also puts up a pretty good fight against the disease when cancer has already struck. Pomegranate juice has a very high amount of antioxidants and also has anti-inflammatory properties. It can reduce the development of aggressive cancers such as prostate and breast. Drinking this juice daily can reduce the chance of prostate cancer by more than 50%. Drink at least 8 ounces a day for cancer prevention.

2. Brussels sprouts, bok choy, Chinese cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower. These foods all contain sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinols (I3Cs which are two molecules that are extremely good at preventing cancers of all kinds. These molecules help the body to detoxify substances that can cause cancer and also prevent precancerous cells from developing into malignant tumors. They also inhibit tumor growth. 

3. Garlic, Onions, Leeks, Shallots and Chives. The sulfur compounds found in these alliaceous foods are effective at fighting colon, breast, lung and prostate cancers.  Those who specifically eat garlic have been found to be at a much lower risk for kidney, stomach and prostate cancers. The active compounds in garlic are released when you crush the clove and are more easily used by the body if they are combined with oil.  In order to get the most out of these foods, lightly sauté them with some olive oil and mix in tons of fresh veggies and herbs.

Even if you already have cancer, changing your diet so that you are consuming the right foods to fight the disease is crucial. Many people that have been told by their doctors they have little time to live have fought cancer for many years through diet and exercise alone.
