Fungal Infections: Tinea Versicolor
Fungal infections include a host of divergent disorders ranging from the most minor to the more serious. Tinea Versicolor is one of the most minor infections, but one that can be difficult to eradicate entirely.
Tinea Versicolor is also known as pityriasis versicolor and involves a discoloration of the skin pigment. Patches are often found on the back and chest and are reddish or brown in colour but can turn white in the sun.
Tinea Versicolor is not a serious disorder, as the fungus that causes this particular infection only affects the top layer of the skin. It is furthermore non-contagious and is found most commonly in adolescents and young adults. The fungus eats the oils of the surface oils of the skin and it is believed that those with oilier skin are more prone to these times of infections.
Getting overheated or sweating profusely can aggravate the condition. A hot shower, the sunshine or excessive sweat can also be responsible for making the patches a lighter shade. Often these rashes can be mistaken for ringworm so it is always best to have a doctor or health care practitioner get a good look in order to make the treatment most effective.
Because Tinea Versicolor is a fungal infections over the counter fungal remedies can be effective. These are stubborn infections however so you need to be quite persistent if you hope to do away with them entirely. Another homemade solution includes using fresh tomato juice in flour to form a pasty substance. This can be applied to the affected areas and left on for about five minutes. Massage it into the skin and then rinse. The acidic nature of this fruit is a great way to kill of the fungus.
Using Selsum blue shampoo is also a remedy for this fungus as it contains selenium sulfide. Of course, the best defense is a good offense, so be sure that your immune system is getting everything it needs to successfully fight off these little invaders. When your immune system is in good working order you are better able to resist all kinds of infections. There are a variety of good supplements that can help detoxify the body and boost immunity overall.
Fungal infections can range in severity, but most often these are simply a terrible pain.
