Natural Remedies for Eczema
Eczema, otherwise sometimes called simply Dermatitis, is a very common skin disorder. Eczema causes a variety of symptoms including itching, skin colour changes, dry patches, inflammation, weeping, cracking, flaking and thickening of the skin. These symptoms can range from mere irritation to truly painful, and finding relief can also be challenging.
The causes of eczema are somewhat unclear. Doctors have suggested eczema to result from allergies, food sensitivies, Candidiasis, and weaknesses in the gut, as well as problems in the absorption of EFAs. Leaky Gut Syndrome and difficulty converting EFAs in anti-inflammatory prostaglandins are possible causes according to experts.
Because allergens can play a role in eczema outbreaks, steering clear of potential allergens is the first step. Milk and gluten can be to blame as can anything that irritates the skin on the outside including latex, rubber, detergents, soaps, lotions, plants, metals, cosmetics and perfumes.
Treatments for eczema include vitamins, minerals, and topical applications. The best vitamins for eczema outbreaks include vitamin B complex vitamins, EFAs, vitamin C, E and Zinc. Helpful herbs include bee pollen, borage oil and flax seed oil, and shark cartilage.
Try to add brown rice to your diet and avoid eggs, peanuts, soy foods, what and dairy products for a while to see if this dietary change improves the condition. Sugar, strawberries, white flour, fried and processed foods, as well as chocolate can also be to blame so try an elimination diet with these as well.
Finally, topical lotions made from colloidal oatmeal can be very soothing and helpful. Sea salt baths can also help, although be careful not to further dry out your skin. Aloe Vera taken internally and applied topically can provide relief. Aloe Vera can soothe and heal intestinal problems and ruptures so drinking this tonic can also help if your skin condition is related to digestive problems.
A whole body approach is best when it comes to treating eczema. Eating well, avoiding known allergens and getting enough nutrition and exercise will all help to relieve this condition.
