Accepting your body starts at a young age and a positive body image is integral to a healthy adulthood, especially for women. Apart from the self confidence that goes along with it, teaching women to accept and trust their bodies may be the key to treating eating disorders, an Ohio State study finds.
The psychologists there have shown that women who come to appreciate their bodies are most likely to be healthy intuitive eaters (you eat foods your body truly desires to satisfy physical hunger rather than emotional need, and stopping eating when you're full). These women are more likely to focus on how their bodies feel and function, and less likely to worry about how their bodies appear to others. Intuitive eaters have high levels of self-esteem, coping ability, optimism, and the ability to deal with stressful situations.
Makes sense- women who accept their body and feel good won’t have the need to lose weight or go to drastic measures to be accepted. It seems eating disorders are almost the “in” thing these days, just as common as botox and tummy tucks. But if more people accepted themselves we wouldn't hear so much about these disorders.
