Connection Between Cell Phones & Male Fertility Still Fuzzy

A new study has shed light on the question “do cell phones affect male reproduction?” 364 men have undergone tests in Cleveland to determine sperm quantity and quality, and the link to cell phone habits.

Researchers found the more the men in the study used their phones the lower their sperm count tended to be. Men who reported using their cell phones more than four hours a day had the lowest average sperm counts - 66 million/mL. In comparison, the average sperm count among men who said they did not use cell phones was 86 million/mL.

Men - here’s the good news…although sperm count appears to have gone down with increased cell phone use, the difference in numbers wasn't significant. And semen quality did not seem to be linked to cell phone use. Experts call this information “preliminary” and say they still have a lot to learn.

Much talk surrounds the issue of modern conveniences affecting health. As far as these suspected environmental influences on male fertility go, smoking, drinking, and marijuana are still valid culprits, but wait for more research regarding cell phones before you toss it in the river.
