Lose The Meat, Lose The Pounds

Vegetarianism may be the answer to your diet woes. The American Heart Association (AHA), has presented a new study regarding the effects of a lacto-ovo-vegetarian (dairy and eggs allowed) diet on weight loss.

In a recent study of 176 overweight men and women that had half the participants engage in a vegetarian diet while the other half followed a standard low-calorie, low-fat diet, found that people who stuck to the veggie diet for at least one year lost more weight than those on the standard diet. They also shed considerably more excess flab and noticed a significant drop in "bad" cholesterol after six months.

Bottom line: If you adhere to a vegetarian diet you will likely lose weight and have significant improvements in your heart disease risk profile.

Many of the participants stuck with the veggie lifestyle even after the study ended. Would being forced into a vegetarian diet leave you won over in the end?
