Plastic surgery has been all the rage in the 21st century, with people trying to meet impossible goals of perfection. Many women now have fake breasts, noses, and even butts and the men are going for facial surgeries such as a chin implant or others may get calf implants. With shows like Extreme Makeover and The Swan, there is no longer any shock value in plastic surgery. Now, a new form is emerging-plastic surgery for your feet!
The practice of cosmetic foot surgery started about 10 years ago in clinics in Los Angeles, Miami and New York. Dr. Oliver Zong who is a podiatrist in New York city says, “the pressure to have younger-looking feet has never been greater", and “Everybody wants to wear Manolos or those types of shoes," he says, "and because the current fashion focus is on shoes, the cosmetic focus has moved there too. I&undefined;m so busy right now, I have to book an appointment just to eat my lunch." Perhaps this type of surgery has not quite caught on to the rest of the world yet, but it may. Most people look towards foot surgery for non cosmetic reasons, but this may be changing. There are numerous procedures which can enhance your feet. For those whose second toe is longer than their big toe they can have it shortened. Surgeons can also straighten out toes and correct claw or hammer toes. For those that are concerned with the width of their feet due to bunions, they can get these removed. Alternatively, if you think your feet are too slim there are injections available to plump them up. Injections can also be placed on the ball of your foot to relieve pain or to allow women to wear high heels without the painful consequences.
Getting your feet tweaked for cosmetic reasons is not a cheap procedure. Just like other types of plastic surgery, it comes with a price and can range from $5,000 upwards.
