The Power of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is arguably the most powerful vitamin and is extremely important for optimum health. It is also known as L-ascorbic acid and may come in tablets or white crystalline powder. Humans cannot produce their own vitamin C and therefore many people do not consume enough of it.

The power of vitamin C has been long researched and its effects on the human body are plentiful. It protects us from environmental pollutants, heart disease , and cancer. Vitamin C stimulates the immune system and helps the body heal itself faster. It is also great for healthy skin because it promotes the production of collagen and elastin. As if this isn’t enough, Vitamin C also plays a large role in healthy cell respiration, formation of teeth and bones, body cells, ligaments, and other body tissues. Vitamin C is an extremely good detoxifying agent for the liver when combined with milk thistle, garlic, and other herbs with known antioxidant properties. Taking high levels of vitamin C will also combat stress because it decreases the body’s production of cortisone. Cortisone is a hormone that your body releases when under stress. This super vitamin may also be the answer to clearing the arteries of dangerous plaque that can lead to strokes and heart disease. Dr Dr. James Enstrom from the University of California studied people who took the vitamin for 10years. He found that 300mg of vitamin C a day reduced risk of heart disease by 50 percent in men and 40 percent in women. The test also revealed that a higher intake of vitamin C boosted life expectancy by 6 years. Another study showed that people taking 1.500 mg of Vitamin C a day for one year significantly reduced the amount of plaque in their arteries and those that did not consume vitamin C had worse plaque than the year before.

Vitamin C deficiency is characterized by tooth loss, gum disease, fatigue, hemorrhaging, and poor skin. It is very important that children get enough vitamin C because it plays a huge role in proper development of the cells in bones.
