What is Coenzyme Q10?
Your body is a complicated mixture of intricate functioning that serves to keep you alive. Processing food into energy is but one of the millions of transitions that happen each moment inside your body. Carbohydrates, proteins, sugars, and greens – all of them transform from something on the plate into the fuel that keeps you running.
Our bodies turn much of the food we eat into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a high energy phosphate which assists in all cellular functioning. By metabolizing various food items, we are able to store that ATP until needed. (If you are a regular exerciser you know that the more food you give your body, the better workout you’ll have.)
In order for ATP to function it must have Coenzyme Q10 present, without it cellular processing will not happen. Q10 is found naturally in low levels within our bodies, but is best sourced out of fish, meat, or supplements. Other sources of coenzyme Q10 are foods like:
- Eggs
- Broccoli
- Wheat Germ
- Peanuts
- Spinach and;
- Whole Grains
While all of these food sources are great it is important to note that in order to reap the benefits of Q10 they must be consumed raw – no milling or cooking, and definitely no freezing.
The health risks of a diet low in Q10 are great, and people suffering from chronic diseases such as Parkinson’s, cancer, diabetes, or HIV/AIDS are often found to have low levels of the coenzyme.
Increasing your exposure to Coenzyme Q10 through diet is a great way to remain healthy and keep you energy levels up. Supplemental referrals by medical doctors have increased greatly recently and now several doctors recommending it as a staple of a healthy diet.
AstroNutrition offers several different types of Q10 supplements from top quality producers. It is recommended that you take the supplements with a diet rich in oil to assist in processing. For a complete list of Coenzyme Q10 products available at AstroNutrition, click here.
