Working out means straining your muscles. You need to push beyond the relative comfortable zones in which you can easily complete a series of reps in order to develop strength. That means your biceps, quads, abs, or any other muscle group, run the risk of getting damaged. Not lifting properly or pushing too hard can strain and tear your muscles and leave you damaged. Getting the ability to work the muscles again takes time, and often the only option for healing is letting your body rest. But there are things you can do to speed up recovery.
Here are some suggestions on speeding up recovery time:
1. Rest. The worst thing you can do is deny that you’ve been injured. Take it as a opportunity to workout some other way, like doing more cardio on a bike, or simply take a few days off.
2. Once you’ve cooled down some, stretch. Stretching the painful muscles gently and for a longer period of time increases blood flow to the damaged area.
3. Eat protein. Eating protein powders, meats, fishes, or any other type of protein, will stimulate the reparation.
4. Ice the damaged area, then heat it. But remember to do both with reserve. Too much of either can have alternative results.
5. Stay hydrated. Your body will need fluids to assist the process of healing. It is always important to stay hydrated however, and this should be done after every workout.
