Running Shoes Buyers Guide
When it comes to working out, having fashionable attire is definitely a choice. However, when it comes to getting proper footwear, this is no place to skimp. Good footwear is essential to staying injury free and therefore to enjoying your exercise program. Without this most fundamental component, you may find yourself quitting a program due to pain, injuries or worse.
Buying the perfect shoe depends of course on a number of factors. First off it depends on the kind of exercise you will be engaged in. For running, there are a variety of other factors you’ll have to think about as well. These include how often you run, the distances you run, where you like to run, among other factors.
First off, the cushion of the shoe is very important. If you have a moderate to high arches you’ll want to get a shoe with good cushioning. It is also a good choice for those who need maximum midsole cushioning with less side cushioning. Cushioned shoes are therefore suited for runners who don’t overpronate.
Overpronation is a term that means that your feet tend to role inwards a little too much. Thus, although when walking or running it is quite normal to land on the outside of the foot and roll inwards slightly, when this occurs to a greater extent than is normal this is called overpronation.
People who overpronate while running or walking do well to have motion-controlled shoes. Motion controlled shoes are shoes that help to fix this tendency to roll inwards so much. These type of shoes will provide extra support on the medial arch. The sides of the foot will therefore be better supported.
Motion-controlled shoes are also good for those who have low arches, or flat feet. Also heavier runners or larger than average sized people may benefit from this type of shoe.
Performance training shoes are another type of shoe. Performance shoes are great for those who partake in racing, speed work, or daily running. Fast runners who are training benefit a good deal from these shoes. Those who overpronate slightly can also find these helpful.
Finally, racing shoes are a good shoe for those who are seeking to lighten the load for races. Though you may choose to train in the performance trainers above, when race day comes a lighter shoe or racing shoe can give them more speed.
There are of course other varieties, including stability shoes and trail shoes. By going to a running shop or speaking with a physiotherapist you should be able to acquire all the information you need to buy a running shoe that works for you. Investing in a good all purpose running shoe can dramatically increase the likelihood of remaining injury free.
