Sitting Strains and Back Pains

Tired of having to sit down all day and the back pain that goes with it? You gotta love the perks of the desk job. If you are that hard worker sitting at a computer each day or sitting at a desk in another work environment, you’re probably already spending a fortune on massage, chiropractic, and other doctor bills to ease the back pain.

Sitting for extended periods is among the most tormenting and tyrannical things we ever ask the human body to do, writes Julia Keller in the Chicago Tribune. "Sitting, in and of itself, puts a strain on the lower back," said Richard Ezgur, a Chicago chiropractor. "Sitting for several hours at a time can be more strenuous than going for a run." The risks of physical injury from sitting too long are quite real. "In prolonged sitting, you don't have that muscle activity that helps return blood to the heart," said vascular surgeon Dr. Christopher Skelly.

Avoid constant pain by getting up from your desk often and walking around, also going to the gym outside of work and getting exercise helps. Those other specialty services do help, and if you’re lucky your medical plan is covering them.
