Is breakfast really the most important meal of the day?
There are some detractors toward the theory that eating a solid breakfast each morning will benefit you throughout the day, but we don’t need to worry about them – they’ll be too tired to argue with us.
Breakfast acts as a foundation for daily activities; as something you can draw on as the day moves forward, instead of reaching for a quick snack that might not be healthy. Eating a good breakfast affords us the opportunity to eat much needed calcium and fiber in our diet, and when we are sufficiently fed we have the energy to make our minds and bodies function at top levels.
Also, according to personal trainer Denise Austin, eating a proper breakfast each day is what turns your metabolism ‘on’ and having that kick start will help you keep the weight down.
But just any breakfast won’t do. Eating left-over pizza, or frying up a dozen eggs to eat with blood sausages and fried potatoes isn’t going to benefit you. The traditional ‘English Breakfast’ is actually one of the worst things you can eat, and the most time consuming.
Eating simply, and healthy is what you need to do.
Try having a little yogurt with granola, and some fresh fruit. Make a smoothie. Wait until your day has started before you have your coffee. If you want eggs, poach them. Eat them with some avocado, or tomato, or spinach. Eat lightly, but eat well. If you are finding yourself still hungry, try adding hemp hearts to your cereal. Or bring a piece of fruit with you to work to snack on instead of fat-loaded muffin, or, if you can, find a healthy muffin without too much sugar.
