Veggie Diet Linked To Weight Loss

We have all heard about the advantages of going vegetarian, but is there truth to all the talk? Well, if it’s a weight loss diet you are after, recent research does indeed show that cutting out meat could lead to more weight loss for those looking to shed some pounds, and vegetarian diets are often linked to less obesity.

In a review in the Nutrition Journal, physicians reviewed 87 past studies by various researchers. They found that vegetarians, people who avoid eating meat but consume dairy products, were less likely to be obese and that vegetarian diets brought greater weight loss. According to the review, vegetarians typically eat diets that are higher in carbohydrates and dietary fiber and lower in calories, protein, total fat, cholesterol, and saturated fat. Eating more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables also provides protection against chronic diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

So whether you are vegetarian for your health or more for the health of the animals, your veggie diet could be attributing to your weight loss goals if you eat the right foods. Converting from omnivorous to vegetarian can also leave more money in your pocket - a pound of beans swells when cooked, a pound of ground beef shrinks!
