After a hectic work week, it’s easy to lose momentum on your diet and exercise goals once the weekend hits. You’re going out for dinner, going to parties, drinking alcohol, and your diet goes out the window. Don’t undo all your hard work during the week in those two relaxing days off. Here’s some advice just in time for the weekend!
Have your cake and eat it too, but not a big slice! Experts suggest following your usual healthful eating plan carefully and getting to the gym daily during the week - so that when the weekend comes, you can splurge a little. Think of it as the 80/20 rule: 80% of the time, you stick to your healthy routine; the other 20% is your flex time, to indulge a little.
Another popular approach is to use your extra weekend time to prepare healthy meals and catch up on the exercise that gets squeezed out of your schedule during the week. You can spend more time in the gym this way, and focus on preparing more nutritious foods.
So what approach works for you? The plan that means being diligent during the week, but allows you to indulge on the weekends, or the weekend warrior approach that has you playing catch-up. Pick whatever fits your schedule. There's no reason why you can't enjoy the weekends while continuing to make progress toward your weight loss goals.
