Worst Fast Food Offenders

When it comes to losing weight you should obviously be avoiding fast food altogether.  Fast food is a known cause of obesity.  Fried, fatty, high calorie foods are inevitably going to make you fat so most people would obviously do well to avoid them entirely.

However, not everyone will be perfect all the time no matter how much they know they shouldn't order that burger and fries to go.  So, when it comes to fast food, it might be helpful to know just which meals are truly the worst offenders.  This way you can hopefully avoid them and opt for a slightly less disastrous diet buster.

According to research, one of the absolute worst fast food offenders is the big breakfast meals that you can get at many a fast food restaurants.  One of the most popular big breakfasts contains a whopping 1370 calories (about two-thirds of your daily allotted caloric intake).  Avoid this at all costs and opt instead for a smaller breakfast sandwich.

Anything with the word double or triple in it should probably be avoided as well.  A certain triple burger with cheese and fries will run you about 1,790 calories and 111 grams of fat.  The sodium content is likewise outrageous at 2,430 mg of sodium.

Fried foods with gravy.  If it wasn't bad enough that the foods are deep fried in vats of fat, adding loads of gravy and cheese on top will certainly take you closer to an early grave.  A certain chicken basket with country gravy will give you 1,640 calories in a sitting.  Opt instead for something grilled and in a smaller portion size if you hope to survive unscathed.

Shakes of all varieties offered at these sorts of restaurants are some of the worst offenders of all.  People don't seem to realize that though this is nominally a drink, in reality it is a full dinner and dessert (if not more).  Shakes, unless they are healthy, protein shakes or smoothies from a healthy restaurant or made from your own blender at home, should be avoided entirely.  These are sure-fire ways to drink all your calories for the day.

While eating out doesn't have to mean foregoing dining out entirely, it does usually mean avoiding fast food restaurants.  If however you find yourself stranded somewhere, starving and with only a fast food drive-thru in sight, opt for a grilled kid's size meal.  At the very least the portions will be smaller and you may just avoid the worst of what's on the menu.
