Cardiovascular diseases are illnesses that affect the circulatory system including the heart and blood vessels. This category of diseases include arteriosclerosis, coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, arrhythmia, heart failure, hypertension, orthostatic hypotension, shock, endocarditis, aorta diseases, peripheral vascular system disorders, and congenital heart disease.
Cardiovascular disease does not describe one single condition. Instead it is a broad term that relates to a variety of conditions and diseases that involve the heart (“cardio”) and blood vessels (“vascular”). There are over 60 varieties of cardiovascular disease. Some are common such as coronary heart disease and others are rare such as tetralogy of Fallot. When they develop can also vary with some cardiovascular issues occurring at birth and some occurring later in life. It is impossible to give a list of cardiovascular disease symptoms, as there are a lot of different conditions and each has their own set of symptoms.
