Understanding Muscle Mass
When men try to lose weight it is important to understand that the more muscle you have the more calories you burn. For this reason, men should include strength training in their weight loss program as part of the exercise done. Muscle makes your metabolism work harder, so the more muscle mass you have the faster you burn calories and fat.
What about the Waist?
As men age fat first begins to be stored around the waistline. The fat can form what is sometimes referred to as love handles and can be the hardest area to lose weight. The fat storage on the waistline is a result of metabolism slowing down as we age.
However, it can also affect younger people. Usually when this happens for younger people it is due to not moving around enough. This is easy to deal with, though, because there are many ways to stop the storage of fat on your waistline. This includes exercising more and ceasing the consumption of excess sugar.
Controlling what you consume is a weight loss tip for men that can quickly have results. This includes choosing to drink water instead of soda and bananas instead of donuts for breakfast. Watching what you eat and avoiding excess sugar can help get rid of love handles.
Cutting off Food Consumption
Setting a cut off time for you to stop eating at night can help you lose weight. Many like to eat right before bed or get up in the middle of the night for a midnight snack. This causes the calories to be stored on your body instead of having a chance to be used by your body when you are awake. Thus a quick way to start to see weight loss results is to decide on a time between 6pm and 8pm when you will stop eating for the day.
Keeping Track of it All
Can you remember what you ate and drank yesterday? Are you positive you remembered every single thing? Tracking what you consume is a great weight loss tip for men. When tracking what you eat and drink it is important to include everything.
A lot of times when thinking about what we eat we thing something along the likes of “Its only a _____.” While one little treat every now and then is okay, the little thing do add up over time and if you do not track your consumption you might not notice how much you are actually adding to your daily calorie intake with little things. You can use a calendar, planner, journal, pocket notebook, or even a mobile app to keep track of everything you eat and drink daily. It can also be useful to record your weight in the morning and evening.
By tracking what you eat and drink along with your weight you can get a better idea of how different things affect your weight. Sit down regularly and look over what you eat and try to replace unhealthy items with healthier alternatives.
Where to Begin?
Sometimes men’s biggest problem with weight loss tips is trying decide where to start. There are some that do a lot of exercise, use fat burning supplements, and keep up the cycle until reaching their weight loss goal.
This does work for some men, however it is NOT a healthy approach. The best weight loss tip is that losing weight in a healthy way should always be the first priority. Of course, it does take longer, however the long term weight loss results are much more permanent than the often temporary results from quicker less healthier methods.
