Maca root is a vegetable native to the Andes Mountains in South America. It is unique in that it is capable of growing at more than 15,000 feet above sea level.

Peruvian natives have used maca as a food and medicine source for thousands of years. Medicinally, it is most commonly used as a sexual stimulant, as it provides energy and endurance.

Maca research of its effects on mice found that it tripled how often they engaged in sexual activity. A human study confirmed maca root’s effectiveness. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, men ages 21 to 56 took 3g of maca or a placebo for 12 weeks. After 8 weeks of usage, the ones taking maca had an improved sexual desire, although testosterone levels did not change.

Incan warriors used maca in the 16th and 17th centuries to improve their vitality and strength in battle. When the Spaniards arrived in Peru, maca was among the most used and traded products in the area. The Spaniards used maca to make their horses more fertile.

Maca continues to be used for a number of purposes. Not only is it an energy booster, but it also helps correct irregular menstruation, relieve menopausal symptoms, and combat insomnia. It is also used for treating malnutrition and by those recovering from illnesses.

Maca is an effective fertility aid and aphrodisiac. It is also believed to be useful for treating arthritis and respiratory problems because it has “hot” qualities.

Maca root supplements are available in dried, powdered, capsule, and tablet forms. It can be taken in high doses, as it is a food. Dried or powdered maca is convenient to consume in drinks or sprinkled over food.

The commonly recommended daily dosage is at least 3 grams. The effects of taking maca can sometimes take awhile to be felt, but some experience results within hours. There are no reported side effects or drug interactions related to taking maca. (Posted on 2/20/11)

I began my search for a supplement that would help me to balance my hormones without doing anything too drastic or taking prescription medication. When I came across Maca in capsules I was a little hesitant. It almost seamed too good to be true, It seemed to be the perfect thing i needed. I did my research on it and realized that not only does it help to balance your hormones, it also gives you energy, boosts your libido and generally makes you feel happier. I have a 10 month old daughter and after having her I noticed that my hormones were totally out of balance.
I ordered the Maca and about 2 days later it was in my mail box. I took some right away. About 25 minutes later I really felt their affect. had so much energy I cleaned my whole house!
My husband also starting taking Maca and he loves it, he takes some before work and he says its like drinking an energy drink. He's happier when he goes to work, which helps him to do better and he comes home happier because of that.
I would absolutely HIGHLY recommend Maca, in fact I already have, to my menopausal mother and a good friend who also has a baby. Both are extremely please with the product also.
The only side effects might be flatulence but I haven't experienced this, but my husband does sometimes... (Posted on 9/20/10)

i ordered this product on a uk website only to find it was being delivered from canada. no need to worry though as it was delivered in 5 days,including a weekend! excellent service. the product itself came in small, easy to swallow capsules and after only taking them for 2 weeks i (and my wife) have noticed a definate increase in my libido :0) which was the sole purpose of taking them. i will definately be re-ordering more maca!!
