Details

Alpha Lipoic Acid is frequently referred to as the metabolic antioxidant. It is widely acclaimed for its ability to cleanse the liver and to balance blood sugar levels.

Alpha-linolenic acid, or ALA, is known as an essential fatty acid. This means that it is crucial to human health, but cannot be created by the body itself. Because of this, ALA needs to be For this reason, ALA must be attained from foods . The group of fatty acids called omega-3 fatty acids includes ALA, in addition to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are found foremost in fish, while ALA is abundantly concentrated in certain plant oils such as flaxseed oil, soy, perilla, and walnut oils. ALA can also be found in such wild plants as Purslane. Once these omega-3 fatty acids are ingested, the body converts the energy to be readily used

Sustaining a suitable balance between omega-3 and omega-6 (an additional essential fatty acid) in the diet is imperative as both of these substances perform together to promote heath. Omega-3 fatty acids are known to help reduce inflammation, while most omega-6 fatty acids have a propensity to promote inflammation. The proper combination of these fatty acids helps maintain and improve health, while an inappropriate balance could help contribute to development of diseases. To maintain a healthy diet, one should have about two to four times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. The average diet of an American contains between 11 to 30 times more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 fatty acids. This imbalance is believed to play an important cause in the rising rate of inflammatory disorders in the United States.

Reduction of inflammation and prevention of specific chronic diseases, including heart disease and arthritis, are only some of the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. These acids are abundantly concentrated in the brain and are significantly importantly to produce normal growth and development and cognitive and behavioral functions.

Uses
Studies have shown that ALA and other omega-3 fatty acids may be helpful in treating a range of conditions. The data recieved illustrates that ALA mainly promotes heart disease and problems that can be a factor to heart disease, but there are also many additional possible uses for ALA which include:

Heart Disease
To prevent and treat heart disease is it suggested that one consume a low-fat diet and to substitute foods that are rich in saturated and trans-fats with those that contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats instead. Evidence has proven that those who digest a diet rich in ALA are significantly less likely to suffer a fatal heart attack. In addition, risk factors such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol are greatly reduced.

High Cholesterol
People who abide by a Mediterranean-style diet are more inclined to have higher HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. This style of diet contains the perfect balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Ingestion of red meat is discouraged in this diet and butter and cream are completely avoided. The Mediterranean diet mainly accentuates whole grains, daily intake of fruit, fish, poultry, olive oils, ALA, and whole grains. Another common food in the Mediterranean diet is walnuts, which are rich in ALA. These nuts have been proven to lower cholesterol with daily consumption.

High Blood Pressure
Numerous studies indicate that diets and supplements which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids (including ALA) help lower blood pressure drastically in people with hypertension. Contrary to popular belief, not all fish are completely healthy for your body. Fish which are high in mercury, such as tuna, should be avoided because they cause an increase in blood pressure.

Acne
There are limited studies which prove the relation between omega-3 fatty acids and skin problems; however, many clinicians believe that flaxseed can be beneficial to help treating acne.

Arthritis
Studies suggest that omega-3 fatty acid supplements decrease tenderness in joints, lower morning stiffness, and enhance mobility. In cases which people have taken the supplements for a long period of time report that they need less medicine to help mitigate their painful symptoms.

Asthma
Initial research of the relation between asthma and omega-3 fatty acid supplements, particulary perilla seed oil which is rich in ALA, have suggested that lung function in adults greatly increases as well as reduction in inflammation..

Eating Disorders
Men and women who suffer from the eating disorder anorexia nervosa have lower than favorable levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as ALA. To prevent complications which can occur from these dangerously low levels, experts advise ingesting PUFA-rich foods or supplements.

Breast Cancer
Studies have shown that women who consume foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids regularly over many years are less likely to not only develop breast cancer, but if contracted to not die from the disease. This is predominantly true with women who consume fish as an alternative to meat. Laboratory studies indicate that omega-3 fatty acids can slow down the growth of human breast cancer cells and possibly even prevent the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. Mixing omega-3 fatty acids with other combination of nutrients, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, coenzyme Q10, and beta-carotene, may prove to prevent and treat breast cancer.

Burns
Essential fatty acids have been used to support wound healing in burn victims because of the healthy balance of proteins in the body, which is necessary for recovery after obtaining a burn. This has only been proven in animal research and further research is required to determine if this applies to humans as well.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
People who suffer from Crohn’s disease (CD) have low levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their body. Ingesting fish oil supplements which contain these fatty acids can help to reduce ulcerative colitis (an additional inflammatory bowel disease) and the symptoms of CD.

Depression
People who do not obtain enough omega-3 fatty acids or do not maintain a healthy balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in their diet have been proven to be at an elevated risk for depression. The omega-3 fatty acids are important components of nerve cell membranes, which help nerve cells communicate with each other in turn maintaining good mental health.

Other
Although further research is needed, groundwork evidence proposes that omega-3 fatty acids can also be helpful in protecting against certain infections and in treating a variety of conditions such as ulcers, migraine headaches, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), preterm labor, emphysema, psoriasis, glaucoma, Lyme disease, and panic attacks.

Expectations not met. I did not plan how to evaluate whether this product is having an expected result, so I can not say whether or not it has. Because I began using several products about the same time I should be careful not to attribute results to any one of them.

  3. It's the most effective anti-oxidant. It burns fat!...
