- hello my name is darlene perfer (dar) my question is, why do i turn orange when i use sunless tanning sprays. I t dosen t matter if i use bronze or not. I s t hier something wrong with my skin or what. Please explain this 2 me if you can. Thank you.
- Hi Darlene,
Thank you for your question.
There are two reasons why a person’s skin might react negatively to the DHA (the active ingredient in spray tanning) and turn into something unnatural looking. The first reason is from being over-sprayed. Being over-sprayed basically means just how it sounds: there is too much tanning solution being applied on your body.
The other reason a negative reaction occurs is because the person’s skin is really light in color, or they have never been spray tanned and the solution they are using contains too high of a percentage of DHA. This occurs when a person who is unfamiliar with spray tanning uses a solution containing too much DHA. In order to achieve different levels of skin darkening, a different percentage of DHA is used for people with different skin tones. Lighter skin without a base tan should start with spray solutions that contain a lower percentage of DHA.
I hope this helps!
